Theo Wade Dean, long-time resident of Fairfield, CA, passed away peacefully at his home in Winters, California on Friday, December 21st, 2018 after a brief battle with Mantle Cell Lymphoma. Ted was born in Dove Creek, Colorado and raised in Richmond, California. He graduated from Richmond Union High School in 1959.

He married his high school sweetheart, Merle Helen Grandin, on June 21st of that same year. Together they raised seven children – six boys and one girl. All attended schools locally in Fairfield.

After a short stint at Humboldt State University, Ted returned to Richmond and joined the Richmond Police Department. He graduated top of his class at the Northern California Peace Officers’ School in Concord, California in April of 1966. In June of that same year, he graduated from Contra Costa College with an Associate of Arts.

Later that year, he switched careers and joined his dad in the Pipefitters Local 342. He worked in that trade until February of this year. Throughout his 52-year career, he became highly respected – not only as a hard worker and well versed in his field, but as one who was always willing to teach and mentor others.

Most importantly, he loved what he did. His love of hard work, teaching, and mentoring extended to his service in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he was an avid supporter of the Boy Scouts of America. All six of his sons earned the rank of Eagle Scout, as did many of his grandsons.

He worked side by side through Eagle projects and supported them at awards ceremonies. In his church callings, he was known and respected as someone that would “get things done – and get them done right”. Ted enjoyed hunting, camping at Lake Pillsbury and Yosemite, and water skiing at Lake Berryessa.

Ted is survived by his brother, Gordon Dean and wife Laurel of Vacaville, CA; all seven of his children, Michael Dean and wife Debra of Fairfield, CA, Dennis Dean and wife Carol of Renton, WA, Glenn Dean and wife Jennifer of Fairfield, CA, Roger Dean and wife Kirsten of Grass Valley, CA, Charles Dean and wife Teresa of Newcastle, CA, Tamara Self and husband David of Mountlake Terrace, WA, and John Dean and wife Angel of Winters, CA; 26 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren. A small graveside service was held on Thursday, December 27, 2018 under the direction of Magleby’s Oak Park Hills Chapel. Offer condolences by clicking on the Tribute Wall button on this page.
