Theodore A. Evans, age 78 of Canton, passed away Friday, December 28, 2018 at Canton Regency following a period of declining health. He was born September 26, 1940, in Steubenville, Ohio, the son of the late John and Anna (Smarzik) Evans. Ted attended Ohio State University and graduated from Kent State University with honors in 1964.

He was director of research at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., where he earned several patents and awards before retiring in 2001 after 37 years of service. He coached youth sports and was a member of St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Akron where he was active in church organizations. Ted was a man of integrity who earned the respect and admiration of many.

He led by example. He has made an impact on all of our lives and in his absence he will be greatly missed. Ted is survived by his wife of 58 years, Annie M. (Young) Evans; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Conley Evans; daughters, Michele Evans and Diane Evans and her partner Mary Rose Silva; brothers, Ronald Evans, Eugene Evans, Joseph Evans; grandchildren, Evan Gardell, Jack Evans, and Anna Evans.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Evans and son, Theodore A. Evans. Ted’s funeral service will be held on WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 2, 2019 AT 4 P.M. at Heitger Funeral Home – Jackson Chapel, 5850 Wales Ave NW with Rev. Al D’angelo officiating.

Calling hours will be held at the funeral home from 1 to 4 P.M. prior to the service. The family requests no flowers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 4815 Munson St. N.W., Canton, Ohio 44718.
