Theodore’s Obituary Theodore Carl Datte III was born December 1, 1948 and went to meet his Savior on May 19, 2019 at the age of 70. He grew up in Auburn, Michigan and was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church. On September 5, 1970 he married Marilyn Kernstock, the love of his life.

He served in the United States Air Force shortly after they were married. Ted and Marilyn had two daughters; Tracy and Stephanie. He retired from Bay County and Delta College after many years of service.

Ted was active at Zion Lutheran Church in various forms, most recently the Endowment Committee and spent long hours preparing creative and interactive sets for Vacation Bible School. He was always there to lend a helping hand, give advice, or use his quick wit to make you smile. He spurred others on in their faith and encouraged others to witness as well, whether with words or actions.

In addition to his wife Marilyn, he is survived by his daughters, Tracy (Peter) Gustafson, Stephanie (Zachary) Varner, and his four grandchildren who were the joy of his life: Graham & Finley Varner, and Andrew & Adelaide Gustafson. He is also survived by his four siblings: Sharon Berlin, Ruthann Barron, Charles (Paulette) Datte, and Mark (Bonnie) Datte. He was preceded into glory by his parents, Theodore Datte Jr., Luella Datte, and Agnes Datte and two brother in-laws; Ronald Berlin and Gary Barron.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday May 22, 2019 at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church (11 Mile and Seidler Roads-Beaver). Rev.

Andrew P. Menz and Rev. Seth R. Hemme will officiate with burial to follow in Zion Cemetery (Beaver Twp. ).

Ted’s family will receive friends at the Freeland Chapel of the Cunningham-Taylor Funeral Homes, Inc. on Tuesday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. On Wednesday morning Ted will lie in state at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Zion Lutheran Church’s endowment fund or West Midland Family Center. Each morning Ted began his day with this and we encourage you to do the same: “This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it”.
