Theodore N. “Ted” Torchy February 05, 1937 – May 08, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| View Guestbook Entries| Send Sympathy Card Flemington, NJ- Theodore Nicholas “Ted” Torchy, 82, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at home with his loving family at his side. Ted was born in East Orange, NJ, the son of the late Nicholas T. and Mary Torchy. He was raised in Scotch Plains, NJ.

In 1965, Ted married Rosemarie (Pepe) and lived in South Plainfield and Martinsville before moving to Flemington in 2004. Ted faithfully served his country in the United States Army from July 1960 until June of 1962, obtaining the rank of Specialist 4. He was stationed in Germany.

He worked as a brewer for Anheuser Busch in Newark, NJ for thirty-two years. Ted was a member of the Catholic Young Adult Club at St. Mary’s Church in Plainfield, where he met his loving wife, Rosemarie. Ted was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Blessed Sacrament Church in Martinsville.

He liked to travel, spend time with his grandchildren, family and friends and loved his dogs and grand dogs. He enjoyed woodworking, making and refinishing furniture, wood carving and building model cars. Besides his parents, Ted was predeceased by his son, David Torchy in 2007.

Ted is survived by his beloved wife Rosemarie of 53 years; daughter Susan and son-in-law Gregg Stillwell of Flemington; sister Barbara Haelig; brothers Frank Torchy and David Torchy and his wife Adele, sisters-in-law Jean Pepe and Betty Evegan and her husband Harold. He will be missed by his loving grandchildren; Jeffrey Stillwell, Allyson Stillwell, Hannah Stillwell and Alyssa Torchy, 3 great grandchildren, along with many dear nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202, North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 on Wednesday, May 15th from 5-9 p.m. and Thursday, May 16th from 9:00 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. Funeral services will begin on Thursday, 9:45 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a funeral liturgy at 10:30 a.m. at St. Magdalen de Pazzi Roman Catholic Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ.

Ted will be laid to rest at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ted’s memory to: Stein Hospice, 49 Veronica Avenue, Somerset, NJ 08873 or the Flemington-Raritan First Aid and Rescue Squad, PO Box 686, Flemington, NJ 08822.
