Theodore “Ted”‘s Obituary Theodore “Ted” Suwalkowski, 69, lifelong resident of Memphis, MI, died Tuesday, May 7, 2019. Ted was born on March 25, 1950 to Genevieve (Lukasik) and Theodore Suwalkowski. They preceded him in death.

Ted married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Ann Koppinger, on August 28, 1970, and she survives. He is also survived by his children, Julie (Tim) Korecki, of Adrian, and Jody (Angie) Suwalkowski of Clarkston; four grandchildren, Alexandra and Samuel Daly and Anna and Jacob Suwalkowski, and his loving canine companion, Libby. Ted is also survived by two sisters, Marlene (Roger) Haviland of Venice, FL, and Shirley (John) Fisher of Memphis.

Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Robert. There were three things Ted fiercely loved – his family, his country and his hometown. He gave all of himself to each of these.

He was a devoted husband and dad and would do anything for his grandkids, including traveling hours just to see them. Ted was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the Army from 1968-1970. He was stationed in Pleiku, Vietnam from 1969-1970, where he was a Huey helicopter door gunner and crew chief.

He spent his retirement years volunteering for the American Legion Merrick Potter Post 566 where he did all he could to help any veteran in need. Ted loved his hometown of Memphis. He was a 1968 MHS graduate who excelled in football, basketball and was class president.

He served on the Board of Education for 12 years and also coached baseball and basketball, he was a referee, and served on many volunteer committees for the school. Ted dedicated many hours to this town by serving the American Legion, Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, along with others. Ted was honored to receive the key to the city in 2012, along with his wife Ruth.

Ted was employed at Capac Manufacturing from 1970 until 1995. He also worked for Hamlin Tool & Die and St. Augustine Catholic Church. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. with a time of gathering from 4:00pm until the time of service at the American Legion Merrick-Potter Post 566, 34330 Bordman Rd.

, Memphis. A dinner will follow afterwards. Cremation has taken place and arrangements were entrusted to Kammeraad-Merchant Funeral Home and the American Legion.
