Theodore “Ted” Pitsilos passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at home with his loving family. He was born September 26, 1920, the son of Eirini (Fisfis) and Nicholaos Pitsilos. He joined the Greek Merchant Marine at age 16 and traveled the world.

He loved telling people about his adventures at sea. He emigrated from Greece to the United States, eventually settling in Monessen, PA. He married his wife Mary in 1950, and they were married for 63 years.

He was an employee of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Company at Allenport, and was a residential painter in his spare time. He had a very strong, honest work ethic, which he instilled in his family, and was a wonderful provider. He was the oldest living member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church in Monessen.

He brought so much joy and entertainment to the lives of those he met. He is proceeded in death by his wife, Mary, and infant son, Nicholas. He is survived by his daughters Irene Chaliotis of Monessen, PA, and Effie Nungesser of Fayetteville, GA; his grandchildren Michael (Joy) Nungesser of Macon, GA, Gabrielle (Brett) Perry of Douglasville, GA, and Dena (David) Tickel of Canonsburg, PA; his great-grandchildren Owen and Reese Nungesser, Ethan and Colton Perry, and Nicholas Tickel; his brother Haralambos Pitsilos and sister Maria Zannikos, both of Chios, Greece; numerous nieces and nephews; and several first cousins with whom he was very close.

Visitation will be held Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Parzynski Funeral Home & Cremations, Family Owned and Operated, 626 Broad Avenue, Belle Vernon 724-929-6183. Additional visitation will be held Saturday from 12 noon to 1 pm at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, Monessen followed by services at 1 pm with the Rev. George Livanos officiating.

Interment will take place in Grandview Cemetery. Trisagion memorial service will be held Friday at 7 pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church in Monessen.
