Theresa A. Mendez, 81, died February 09, 2019 after a longtime illness. She was a lifelong resident of El Paso. Theresa was a registered nurse for more than 50 years and worked tirelessly in the operating and emergency room settings and spent the later part of her career with Harvey Herberman, MD, a prominent El Paso urologist, until her retirement.

Theresa volunteered her time for various clubs during her sons’ school years at Our Lady of Assumption School and Cathedral High School. She is survived by her husband, Fernando; her sons; Louis Arthur (Douglas) of New York City and George of El Paso. She is also survived by her grandson, Briar Anthony Mendez of El Paso; her sister, Carmen Haney of El Paso and her brother, Frank Acosta (Irene) of Dallas.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Luis and Candelaria Acosta; her sisters, Maria Elena Ruiz and Ramona Diaz; and her brothers, Luis Acosta Jr., and Juan Acosta. Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 9:00pm, with a Vigil/Rosary at 7:00pm on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. Graveside Services will begin at 9:30am on Friday, February 15, 2019 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

The Family requests that family and friends meet at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the charity of your choice. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home Northeast.
