Thomas Andrew “Andy” Rector of Rock Creek, Alabama, went home to be with the Lord January 13, 2019. He was born November 26, 1928, to the late Jacob Leondous Rector and Florence Marie Herdy Rector of Paducah, Kentucky. Andy graduated from Tilghman High School in Paducah, and Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky.

He retired as a District Manager from J.C. Penney’s, and later he retired as a District Manager from Ameriprise. As a young man, he enjoyed becoming a Life Scout. As an adult, he was very proud to be a veteran of the Korean War.

As Staff Sargent, he was a non-commissioned officer in charge of the Airman Personnel Branch of Wing Headquarters, answering directly to the general, at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, TX. He loved caring for God’s creation in the living art form of bonsai. Visiting Japanese asked how Americans could do bonsai from the heart.

They understood when they saw his work. He was past president of Alabama Bonsai Society. Andy was very thankful for the opportunity to go to Paraguay to help build churches.

He was happy to do anything he could to uplift the body of Christ. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Ellen Snider Rector; a son, Rick Rector; a daughter, Roxanne (Jim) Berry; five grandchildren, four great grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends. A graveside service will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at Rock Creek Church of God Cemetery.
