He was born September 27, 1928 in Grand Rapids the son of Allen and Dorothy (Collins ) Bos. Tom joined the Marines at the age of 18, and was called back to serve during the Korean Conflict.
Thomas had a 42 year career with the Grand Rapids Fire Department, serving the last 18 years as Battalion Chief, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church. Tom enjoyed photography, hunting, watching the grandkids sporting events, raising Elk with his son.
Surviving are his children William ( Monarae Moon ) Boss of Howard City Robert ( Barbara ) Boss of Belleville Nancy Boss of Howard City Margaret ( Kenneth ) Felix of Belmont Kathleen Thompson of Howard City Joann ( David ) Pyle of Howard City 12 Grandchildren and 15 great grand children one sister Mary VanWyck of Grand Rapids and several nieces and nephews and many of his life long friends in and out of the Grand Rapids Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wife Helen (Burgstahler) Grandchildren Kyle Boss and Allison Pyle, and a sister Maxine Whitehouse. Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday at 11:00 AM at Christ The King Catholic Church with Father James VanderLaan presiding with burial in the Amble Cemetary.
The family will greet friends at the Heckman Funeral Home in Howard City on Wednesday evening from 7-9 pm and on Thursday prior to services at the church. The family requests in lieu of flowers contributions be made to Hospice.
