Thomas H. Bowen, 71, of Hudson passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack comforted by his loving family. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Tom was born on December 8, 1947, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, son of the late Henry and Estelle (Dill) Bowen. Graduating from Newton High School in 1966, Tom enlisted into the United States Marine Corps and served two tours in Vietnam from 1966 to 1969.
While serving his country, Tom earned two purple hearts and several distinguished service medals. Honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 1969, Tom returned home to New Hampshire where he spent a brief time as a Prison Guard at the Concord State Prison and as a Police Officer with the Concord, New Hampshire Police Department. While working and living in Concord, Tom enrolled as a student at the New Hampshire Community College where he met his wife, Diane, and earned an associate degree in 1972.
Relocating to the Hudson and Nashua area later that year, Tom enlisted and served four years in the National Guard. During that time, he also went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Business from the University of Lowell and later earned a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Daniel Webster College, and a master’s degree in Business from Rivier College. Most of his professional career was spent in the high-tech industry working on both Civil and Government contracts as a Software Test and Quality Assurance Engineer for several New England based companies such as RCA, BAE, and Fidelity to name a few.
Tom also taught business classes at the New Hampshire Technical College and Hawthorne College in Nashua. Tom was a member of the VFW of Nashua, American Legion Post 48 of Hudson, and the DAV of Nashua. As an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, Tom most enjoyed spending his time with family and friends watching the ball game.
While his children were growing up, he coached Youth Baseball, Recreation Basketball, and Pop Warner Football. Tom was a sports and history enthusiast. He shared his passion for each with his children and grandchildren.
As part of an annual tradition, Tom would take his children and grandchildren to ball parks up and down the east coast to take in a game and then see the historic sights of the area. His last trip was spent with his wife of 47 years fulfilling their life-long desire to travel the country in an RV. Tom is survived by his wife, Diane (Boucher) Bowen of Hudson; three sons, Keith Bowen and his wife Lori of Hudson, Kevin Bowen and his wife Stefanie of Hooksett, Kenneth Bowen and his wife Heather of Merrimack; a daughter Kerry Fain and her husband John of Hudson; 2 Brothers, Stephen Bowen of Illinois, David Bowen and his wife Jodie of Phoenix, Arizona; 2 Brother-in-laws, Paul Boucher and wife Karen of Lebanon, Gerry Boucher and his wife Kathy of Hudson; 10 Grandchildren, Cameron, Caitlyn, Kayla, Madelynn, Michaella, Nathan, and Jake Bowen, John, Ashlynne, and Celia Fain; several nieces and nephews and a dear friend of over 60 years, Charles Bell.
SERVICES: Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, March 24, from 1pm to 4pm in the DUMONT-SULLIVAN FUNERAL HOME, 50 FERRY ST. IN HUDSON. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated the following morning at 10:00 am at St. John XXIII Parish in St. John the Evangelist Church, 27 Library Street, Hudson.
All to meet at the Church. Burial will take place at the NH State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway in Boscawen, NH at 2:00 pm. All may meet at the cemetery for a graveside service with military honors.
