OBITUARY Thomas C Armstrong August 16, 1927 – November 13, 2018 Thomas Chester Armstrong, 91, of Buzzards Bay, MA passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Nancy E. (Raup) Armstrong. Thomas and Nancy were best friends in high school and sweethearts.
He entered the service right after graduation. Thomas returned to Dade City, Florida after the service and graduated from Florida Southern College with a B.S. in Education and Ed M. from Bridgewater State College. He married and had three beautiful daughters who were the apple of his eye.
He loved teaching school, directing summer camp, politics and his church. Mr. Armstrong was a teacher of mathematics for 25 years and also the Mathematics Department Chairman and Mathematics Coordinator of Grades K through 12 in Foxboro, MA. He later was the owner and director of Glenmere Country Day Camp a children’s summer day camp in Norton, MA from 1956 to 1972.
He and Nancy were reunited through the Grace of God after being apart for 34 years. Being together was like going back home, good friends and lovers once more. After they both retired, they purchased Camp Waziyatah, a children’s coed summer camp in Southern Maine.
It had been closed for four years, people thought that they were crazy. Together they worked as one for 12 years to create a special summer home for campers and staff from across the United States, Canada, Mexico and around the world. After they retired, they became busy with their church and community during the winter.
Their summers were spent at Hideaway Village, Buzzards Bay, MA close to family and stops to visit Nancy’s family on the way to and from Florida. He was a member of Swift Memorial United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Eagle Scouts, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics – Conference speaker and numerous leadership roles.
Vice President of the National Council of Supervisor of Mathematics, New England President of the Association of Teachers of Mathematics and Chairman of the Southeastern MA Regional Association of Mathematics. He is survived by his daughters, Peggy Cavalieri and her husband Steve of Plainville, MA; Pamela McGuirk and her husband Bob of North Attleboro, MA and Patricia Frost and her husband Craig of Bourne, MA; a grandson, Tony Cavalieri of Lowell, MA and a granddaughter, Ainslee Frost of Bourne, MA. A Funeral Service on Saturday, Nov.
17th at 2:00 p.m. at Swift Memorial United Methodist Church, Sagamore Beach. Interment at the Massachusetts National Cemetery is private. Donations in his memory may be made to Swift Memorial UMC, 10 Williston Rd.
