February 6, 2019 Thomas C. Quinlan ATHOL- Thomas C. Quinlan, 87, of West Royalston Road, died on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at Heywood Hospital in Gardner. Born in Greenfield on August 31, 1931, he was a son of the late George and Gretchen (Crawford) Quinlan and grew up in West Labanon, NH. Tom moved to Orange at age 15 where he attended Orange High until his sophomore year where he played baseball.

He then transferred to Athol High and continued to play baseball and basketball. He graduated from Athol High School in 1948. Thomas enlisted into the United States Navy on May 14, 1951 during the Korean Conflict and was a supply clerk for aviation parts.

He was honorably discharged on May 4, 1955. In 1979, Thomas married Ruth M. (Rushford) and they have enjoyed over 39 years of marriage. Thomas worked for the A&P Store off and on throughout his working career, as well as working for Harrington-Richardson in Worcester where he was the manager of Government arms contracts.

He also worked at the former Union Twist Drill in Athol for 19 years and then went to work for New Hampshire Ball Bearings. Thomas worked several years in Connecticut for Alden Tool. After retiring in 1997, Thomas still worked part time for H&R Gun several years, Wal-Mart for 8 years and fully retired in 2013.

In his younger years, Thomas enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include his loving wife, Ruth Quinlan of Athol; sons Joseph Teague of Athol and Jason Teague of Winchendon; grandchildren, Joshua Teague stationed in Germany, Ashleigh Teague of Baldwinville and Erika Teague of Troy, NH; a sister in law, Nancy Magill of Orange. a niece, Melissa Cieszkowski and her husband, Chris, of Franklin, and their children, Nora and Samuel; a nephew, Bruce Kanash and his wife, Lee, of Millers Falls and their children Hayden, Morgan and Jaclyn.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Doris Etienne. A calling hour will be held on February 15, 2019 from 10-11 a.m. at Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange. A service will be held at 11 a.m. on February 15th at Witty’s Funeral Home in Orange with Beverly Prestwood-Taylor of the Athol Congregational Church officiating.

Interment will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery, Athol. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to any local veteran’s organization. Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange, is directing the arrangements.
