NEW HARTFORD – Thomas E. Bailey Sr., 73, passed away peacefully holding the hand of the love of his life on February 1, 2019, in the comfort of his home. Tom was born on August 4, 1945, in Pontyates, Wales at the Enfield House, the son of the late Edwin F. and Nancy Bailey of Chadwicks. Tom served in the United States Marine Corps from 1963-1966 during the Vietnam War.

On October 9, 1965, Tom married Bonnie Evans, a blessed union of 53 years. He was employed with Bendix for 36 years until retiring in 2011. Tom was an avid classic car enthusiast known as “The Car Guy”.

He was a member of the International Retractable Ford Club, Mohawk Motorcades Automotive Club, and Avanti Owners Association International. Tom received several awards and trophies for his “not looking for perfection but it better be there” restorations. He was also a volunteer for Munson-Williams- Proctor Arts Institute.

Surviving besides his loving wife Bonnie are three sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas E. Bailey, Jr., Elmira, Michael P. and Robyn Bailey, Deansboro and Timothy R. and Jyl (Baez) Bailey, Utica; grandchildren, Emily (Evan) Smith, Nathaniel Bailey, Sean and Alyssa Baez, Jacob Bailey, Cali Bailey, Amber Bailey and Thomas E. Bailey III; great-grandchildren, Zachary Thomas Bailey, Elijah and Carter Smith; sister-in-law, Patricia Bailey and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by several cousins including Owen and Barbara Jenkins of Wales and special friends, Fred LaCelle and Gerard Garramone. Tom was predeceased by his brother, Rev.

Paul C. Bailey and his granddaughter, Cassandra Bailey Relatives and friends are invited and may call Monday from 4-6 p.m. at McGrath, Myslinski, Karboski & Nunn Funeral Directors, 470 French Rd. , Utica. Funeral services will follow visitation at 6 p.m. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
