Thomas E. Taylor (Tom), age 77 of Huntsville, AL passed away on Thursday, May 16th. Born in Pennsylvania Tom eventually moved to Huntsville, where he met the love of his life, Arlene, who he was married to for over 56 years. He worked for General Electric for 35 years, beginning in the mailroom and working his way into management in their Rockville, Maryland office.

After retirement, he and Arlene moved back to Huntsville and built a second home in Centre where Tom could keep busy fixing things, enjoying the water and his beautiful sunsets. It was in Centre that he launched the organization “Save Weiss Lake” which helped clean up the lake that he was so taken with. Tom was a man with a loud laugh, strong opinions, a great sense of humor, fierce loyalty to his family and could tell the best stories of his adventures, childhood and trips around the world.

He was an extremely hard worker, gave a helping hand to those that needed it, could fix anything (with every tool that was required to do the job) and loved animals with a passion, especially his dogs Jack and Luke. He will be sorely missed by those that knew and loved him as his personality was not the kind that sat quietly in the background, but a bold one that impacted anyone he met. His many gifts can be found in each of his children and his grandchildren as well which made him a very proud father and granddad.

Tom left behind his wife Arlene; his three daughters, Lisa (Leslie) Lanier, Jennifer (Ray) Abell, Becky (Pat) Power and five grandchildren, J.T., Bennett, Emma, Kaitlyn and Parker. He is preceded in death by his son Thomas E. Taylor Jr. (Tommy), his parents John and Elsie Taylor, sister Mickey McCool and brother Jackie Taylor. A private family memorial will be held at a later date.

If friends and family wish to honor Tom’s memory, donations to the Humane Society or the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust would be greatly appreciated. Hazel Green Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
