OBITUARY Timothy Patrick Armstrong May 17, 1955 – October 3, 2018 Timothy ”Tim” Patrick Armstrong Born on May 17, 1955 in Sacramento CA. Passed away peacefully on October 3, 2018 in Sacramento CA at the age of 63. Graduated from McClatchy High School in 1973.
He attended Sacramento City College prior to attending Sacramento State where in 1980, he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Speech Pathology & Audiology and a Master’s Degree in 1983. His student work was performed at the VA Hospital in Martinez. During his college years, he worked for Standard Brand Paints from January 1974 through January of 1980.
He worked for Sutter Hearing and Speech from 1984 to 1991. He opened American River Speech and Hearing with Jane Germ in 1991, but soon split off and became the sole owner of American River Hearing in July of 1991, which he operated until his health forced him to retire in August of 2016. He adored his job, not only helping others to hear, but the friendships he forged meant the world to him.
He was the first audiologist in Sacramento to join local surgeon, Stuart Gherini to offer Cochlear implants and was well respected by his peers. He was a long time member of Point West Rotary and served breakfast monthly at Mary House. He loved giving his time to those less fortunate than himself.
His hobbies included scuba diving, golfing, jewelry making, fishing, RC cars and helicopters, collecting knives and guns and followed professional golf, football and baseball. He was the grandson of Sacramento baseball great, Tony Freitas and took great pride in being the curator of his memory. He spoke of the fun they had fishing and even helped in building Tony’s retirement home in Cambria, CA.
He and Tony spent many hours together, until Tony’s death in 1994. Tim was preceded in death by his father, Jack W. Armstrong; Mother, Susie Meadows; Half Brother, Anthony Armstrong and Step- Sister, Robin Meadows. He is survived by his best friend and partner of 7 years, Kristen Derby; Step son, Pearson (Emilie) Rowland; Grandsons Liam, Matthew and Evan Rowland.
His half-brother, John Armstrong; Step- Father, Bob Meadows and Step- Brother, Brian Meadows and is constant companion for almost 10 years, his Border terrier, Finn. A Celebration of Tim’s Life will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 10AM at Harry A. Nauman & Son, 4041 Freeport Blvd. , Sacramento, CA with a reception following.
