OBITUARY Todd Roy Thatcher September 14, 1961 – November 6, 2018 Todd Roy Thatcher, 57, lost his battle with cancer on November 6, 2018 in Mesa, Arizona. Todd is survived by his brother, Bruce Thatcher, of Colorado, and his sisters, Becky (Thatcher) Bernard, of Arizona and Barbara (Thatcher) Kimmel, of Michigan. He was preceded in death by his father, Bruce Keith Thatcher and his mother, Janice (Brossard) Thatcher, of Arizona, both formerly of Michigan.
Todd was born on September 14, 1961 in Lansing, Michigan. As a child, he enjoyed spending time outdoors at Quentin Park, frequenting the playground in the summer and the skating rink and the sliding hill in the winter. He was easy going and well-behaved, yet he still liked to be silly.
Todd attended ton High School and was a member of the marching band, which was the beginning of his life-long love of music. It was around this time he developed his appreciation for automobiles, and he spent many hours helping his father restore a variety of cars, including his beloved 1970 Mustang convertible. Graduating from ton in 1978, Todd then attended Lansing Community College and earned an associate’s degree in restaurant management.
He spent some time in Midland and Dallas, Texas, but eventually returned to Lansing. Todd moved to Arizona in 1985, where he lived for the rest of his life. Though he loved Arizona, Todd always considered himself a Michigander at heart.
Todd dreamed of owning and operating his own restaurant, yet he spent most of his adult life working in convenience stores and driving city buses in Mesa and Tempe. His calm and steady disposition made him an excellent driver. He always had a funny story to tell about something that happened at work.
An avid jokester, he relished riddles and puns, and he always tried to make people smile. It may be his personality and sense of humor that his friends and family will miss most. Todd was a family man.
He looked forward to holidays and enjoyed spending time with his loved ones. He was extremely proud of his nieces, Emily, Allison, Rachel and Sarah. He considered all birthdays and family dinners a priority.
Todd also valued friendship. Whether they were just hanging out listening to music, wandering through a swap meet, or enjoying a night at the state fair, it didn’t matter to Todd as long as he was with his friends. From the time he was a child, and throughout his adult life, Todd loved dogs.
There was Lucky, the family pup from his childhood, then Sammy and Nicky who howled for Uncle Todd and showered him with kisses. His own dogs Zilly and Zoey adored him. Finally, his therapy dog Sally provided love and comfort when he needed it most.
Todd knew the names of all the dogs who belonged to friends and family, and never failed to ask about them. With a kind and gentle spirit; Todd did not have a mean bone in his body. Those who called him son, brother, uncle or friend knew how loyal and caring he was.
He will be fondly remembered and missed every single day. There will be no funeral service. The family wishes to mourn privately at this time and will plan a memorial gathering in the spring.
