OBITUARY Tommy Odell Horton February 28, 1933 – September 11, 2018 Tommy Odell Horton age 85 Was born February 28,1933 in Glen Rose Texas. He was the son of Gracie and Onro Horton of Glen Rose, Texas. He had one brother, Therman Horton, who preceded him in death.

Tommy is survived by his loving wife Eldenna Horton and 6 children, 16 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. One son, Jeffery Boomer Reeves, 5 daughters, Kelly J. Horton, Belinda Whatley, Becky Patterson and son-in-law Tommy Patterson, Debbie Smith, Dondi Pevytoe. One son preceded him in death, James Michael Whatley.

Tommy graduated high school in Cleburne, Texas and received a football scholarship to Howard Payne University. Left to join the Navy and transferred to the Army. He returned from the Army and graduated from North Texas University with a Masters Degree in biology and human anatomy, and completed many hours toward a doctors degree.

He was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys their first year. Due to injuries, he declined the offer. His coaching career included track, swimming, power lifting and football.

Having coached for 35 years, 2 years at Grand Prairie High and 21 years at South Grand Prairie. He also coached at Decatur, Ennis, Burnett, Wilmer Hutchins, Davis, Oklahoma and Shreveport, Louisiana. Tommy served in the military, first in the US Navy and then in the US Army.

He was a very dedicated solider serving as a Ranger, 11th Airborne and 82nd Airborne, as a demolition expert in the Special Forces as a Green Beret. He was a jump master and made 42 jumps. He was a part of the Korean Conflict.

Tommy’s zest for life was unbelievable. He loved to county dance, Cajun dance and ballroom dance. He loved old timey Mardi Gras in Eunice, Louisiana.

Tommy also loved the Mud Bug festivals, calling and eating contest. Tommy loved to play and sing with his Banjo for his grandkids. He loved spending time and traveling with his grandkids to the coast.

Tommy and his wife made two trips to Alaska. Tommy, passed on September 11, 2018, after 8 years of illness. He was as happy as he could be and was always thankful for his care and love.

His last days were spent seeing and talking to his family that were there beside him. His wife is so thankful to God for sharing him with her and has many thanks to all who loved him and have been concerned about him.
