Obituary for Tony Martinez Martinez Tony Martinez passed away on Dec 11, 2018 at the age of 93. He was born on Oct 25, 1925 in Lubrin, Spain. Tony came to the United State at age 8 with his mother Nieves Martinez where they joined his father Antonio Martinez in West Virginia.
Eventually the family moved to Winters, CA where he resided until age 17. He joined the Navy in 1942 where he earned his GED and an AA degree as a dental assistant. He served the country he loved for 4 years honorably discharged in 1946 a proud WWII vet.
He returned to Winters and married the love of his life Dolores Lorenzo on April 16, 1947, a beautiful relationship until her passing in Oct 2012. He started his career as a lifetime farmer in Winters, CA moving to Durham, CA in 1978 creating a successful operation of Martinez Orchards that he championed his entire life. He was involved in many organizations.
50 plus years as a Mason and Past Grand Master, 70 years in the American Legion, lifetime member of the order of Elks, Exchange Club of Durham, SIRS and the Durham Good Sams. Even though he was actively involved with the many organizations he served he always made time to play pinochle, gardening, fishing and hunting. But most of all Tony loved his wife Dolores and his family, farming and life itself.
Tony is survived by his son Anthony Martinez (Rosemary), daughter Janice Bates (Mike), Grandsons Shawn Martinez (Heather), Corey Farrell (Christine) and Granddaughter Kara Maas (Curtis) and three Great Grandchildren, Sister Frances Ramos (John), Brother Frank Martinez (Dorothy) and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to recognize and thank the staff of Prestige Assisted Living in Chico for the excellent care where he was also nominated the Duke of Charm. There will be a viewing at Brusie Funeral Home in Chico on Friday Dec 21st from 5-8PM and a service at Brusie’s on Saturday, Dec 22nd starting at 11am.
Then followed by a military graveside service at Glen Oaks Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family would like contributions made to the Durham Volunteer Fire Department. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.
