Val Jay Danklef, 73 of Pleasant Grove passed away unexpectedly at home Friday Dec. 7, 2018. He was born in Lehi, UT.

on September 2, 1945 to Edwin and Mereda Danklef. Val graduated from Pleasant Grove High School, earned a Bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University and an Associate Degree from Utah Valley Technical Institute. He worked for the State of Utah in various IT positions for more than 20 years.

He married Laurie Kathleen Ryan on October 14, 1974. They eventually made their home in Pleasant Grove where they remained for 40 years. They have two children: Gregory Jay and Shannon Kathleen.

Val served a full time LDS mission to the Ontario, Canada mission and then later served with his wife Laurie in the Atlanta, GA mission. He loved serving his church and dedicated many hours to work on family history. He also loved living in Pleasant Grove where he served on the city council and was a dedicated member of the Rotary Club.

Val was a hardworking, generous person who loved to give whenever he could. Most recently, he found himself serving as the caregiver for his sweet wife and will be especially missed by her. He is survived by his wife Laurie, his son Greg (Kris Tina) Danklef and his daughter Shannon (Zack) Beckstead.

Grandkids: Oliver Beckstead, Ruby Beckstead, Henry Danklef, August Beckstead, and Greta Danklef. He is also survived by his brothers James and Gary Danklef and sister Connie Cooper. He was loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 14, 2018 at 12 noon in the Grove Creek Stake Center, 1176 North 730 East, Pleasant Grove, Utah. Family and friends may attend a viewing Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove and at the Stake Center on Friday from 10:30 – 11:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery.
