Obituary for Valerie Jarrett On December 5, 1958 Valerie Lynette Jarrett was born to Theodore Cooper and Ruth Porter. She was preceded in death by her parents. She was the older of two children.
Valerie received her education in the Inkster and Westland Schools Districts. She continued her education at Detroit College of Business in Dearborn, Michigan, obtaining a certificate of Medical Secretary Transcriptionist. Valerie retired as a Certified Nurse Assistant.
In 1967 Valerie accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at First Missionary Baptist Church. She continued to deepen her faith under the leadership of Pastor Leonard Lyons at Greater Faith Ministries in Detroit, Michigan. On January 23, 1974 filled with joy and excitement, Valerie gave birth to her one and only baby girl LaQuita Chapman (her Little Ruth).
A mother and daughter bond was created which Valerie took great pleasure in. Valerie was united in Holy Matrimony to her soulmate Fredrick Jarrett on June 20, 1994. No children were born to this union.
Fred and Valerie shared over 30 years of love and friendship with each other. Valerie cherished spending time and caring for her family. She was a lover of animals.
She was a second mother to many. Valerie dreamed of one day opening a daycare center, children held a special place in her heart. She found fun and relaxation in reading her bible, fishing, camping, knitting, shopping and going to the casino (penny slots were her favorite).
Though the onset of sudden illness overcame her, Valerie never complained. She weathered the storm with great strength. On February 20, 2018 at U of M Hospital with husband, daughter, grandson and family right by her side, God came and stood beside her and closed those loving eyes and whispered “Peace Be Thine”, Valerie will forever be missed.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories a devoted husband Fredrick Jarrett, daughter LaQuita Chapman, brother Victor (Shavon), step-daughter Lakisha Troy, seven grandchildren, Emmanuel, Johntez, Darius, Demarko, Deahjanae, Amani, and Arman; a loving aunt Loraine Homes and special cousin Mildred Anderson; three sister in laws: Linda (Walter), Brenda (Robert), and Flora; brother in law: Ernest; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by mother in law Ella Mae Daniels, brother in laws: Curtis, Clarence, and James.
