Valerie Jean Lind, 69 of Ontonagon passed away at her home on Thursday, April 18, 2019 with her husband Michael by her side. She was born on March 14, 1950 to Albert and Ann (Pavolich) Butkovich. Valerie was a graduate of Houghton High School.

She attended Michigan Technological University & Northern Michigan University where she received her teaching degree. She began her teaching career in 1972 at the Ontonagon Elementary School while teaching one year at the Rockland Elementary School and finished her teaching career at the Ontonagon Elementary School before becoming the Ontonagon Elementary School Principal until she retired in 2004. On August 11, 1973, she married Michael Lind and together they raised two sons, David and Philip.

Valerie loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed scrapbooking, Red Hats and watching Nascar & IndyCar. She was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, St. Vincent De Paul Society and enjoyed volunteering at Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her brother, Albert Butkovich. Valerie is survived by her husband, Michael of 46 years; Sons, David of Lansing, MI and Philip of Mooresville, NC; Sisters, Veronica (Gary) Simmons of Ontonagon, MI and Virginia Bastian of Houghton, MI; Sister in law Dolores Butkovich of Houghton, MI and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place on Friday, April 26, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Ontonagon.

Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Holy Family Cemetery in the spring. The Cane Funeral Home of Ontonagon is assisting the family with arrangements.
