Valrie Jean Burrrows of Shelby, went to be with her Lord unexpectedly on October 3, 2018. Valrie was born March 19, 1952 and raised on a farm near Sunfield, Michigan. She married Jay Burrows on October 14, 1972.

Valrie received a Bachelor’s Degree from Michigan State and returned to school in the 1980’s receiving a teaching certificate from Grand Valley State University. She moved to Shelby in 1976 where her sons, Clifford Burrows and John Burrows were born and raised. Valrie was a substitute teacher for seven years but was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1994 and had to give up teaching.

She remade herself as a quilt maker and quilting teacher and sold quilting patterns she created. After a few years, her disease worsened and she had to give up that career. Valrie is survived by her husband, Jay; her two fine sons, Clifford (Teri) and John (Tori) and nine of the best grandchildren on earth.

Her brother, Wendell Wheaton (Ann), passed away in 2014 and she is survived by one brother, Winston Wheaton. Even though she lost the ability to stand or walk the last five years of her life, Valrie remained a faithful Christian and was patient and loving with her friends and family. Visitation is Sunday,October 7th, from 7-9 pm.

The funeral service will be held Monday, October 8th, 2 pm at Harris Funeral Home. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Shelby. Memorials may be directed to New Era Reformed Church, P.O. Box 5, New Era, MI 49446.
