Obituary for Veatrice M. Deem Veatrice M. Deem age 92, of Canton, passed away at The Laurels of Massillon on January 9, 2019. She was born in Cairo, West Virginia, January 11, 1926. She was the eldest child of the late Roy Lee and Katherine (Moats) Moneypenny.

She graduated from Cairo High School in 1943 and The Canton Actual Business College in 1965. A resident of Canton since 1943, she was employed The Pepsi Cola Bottling Company for 23 years retiring in 1988. She was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church in the Women’s Circle and taught Sunday School for many years.

She was more recently a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where she was actively involved in the sewing done by the women of the church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, William E. Deem Sr.; son, William E. Deem Jr.; sister, Betty Lou Ellison; and her three brothers, Bill, Roy Lee and Jack Moneypenny. She is survived by a son and daughters-in-law, Lee and Diane Deem of Canton, Ohio and Sally Deem of Marion, Michigan; five grandchildren, Staci and Joe Blecharczyk, Shea and Missy Deem, Dan Deem, Carrie and Brad Schlaupitz, and Matt Deem.

There are 13 great grandchildren and one great great grandson, Hunter Deem. A loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother she and her husband, Bill, resided for many winters at Raintree Resort in North Fort Myers, Florida. Vea was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing, quilting, and cooking.

She also made many beautiful dolls. The Deem family wishes to thank Pastor Schafer, the staff of Massillon Laurels and Crossroads Hospice Care for their compassionate care of Vea. Services will be held Tuesday at 11 am.
