Obituary for Velda Doylene Hill Broughton Velda Doylene Hill Broughton, aged 93, passed away December 23, 2018 at Morning Pointe Assisted Living Center in Calhoun Georgia. Doylene was born December 5, 1925 in Pickens County, GA to the late Austin Hill and Lois Edwards Hill. In addition to her parents, Doylene is preceded in death by her brother, Vernon Blaine Hill, and sister, Betty Jane Hill Neighbors.

Doylene also was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James Hillard Boughton. Doylene and James were college sweethearts having met at Berry College. They were married for 49 years.

Doylene was a graduate of Berry College and Tate High School. She was a public-school teacher in for 30 years. Doylene is survived by her daughters, Dianne King of Cartersville, and Martha Rucker and her husband Tom of Adairsville.

She has 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Her grandchildren are Emily Johnson and her husband Jeff of Cartersville; Brad Kessler and his wife Caroline of Chattanooga; Heath King and his wife Jill of Cartersville; Blake Kessler of Atlanta; and Meredith Kessler of Ringgold. Doylene’s great grandchildren are Emma Cate King, Broughton King, and Hill Kessler.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, December 29rd at 2 PM at a location to be later announced with Dr. John Barber officiating. Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery in Dalton, where Doylene will rest next to her husband James. Pallbearers serving are: Jeff Johnson, Brad Kessler, Heath King, and Blake Kessler.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12 PM until 2 PM. Memorial gift may be directed to the First Baptist Church in Calhoun. You may leave the family online condolences at www.
