Obituary for Mrs. Velma Mae Smith Smith, Velma Mae (92) of Bellflower, California. Velma passed away on Monday, November 19th, 2018 at her residence. She was born on Monday, January 18, 1926 in Long Beach, California to Ray and Helen Steele.

Her father was a Long Beach Police Department Vice Cop and her mother was a homemaker. Pre-deceased by husband Ray T. Smith, former Mayor and Councilman of Bellflower and her siblings, sister Viola and baby brother Virgil. She is survived by her son Michael and her daughter Debra, son-in law, Warren Hamilton, grandson, Ricardo Hamilton and grandson, Mason Hamilton.

Her sister-in-law Dorothy Odell and many nieces and nephews. Velma was a member of Eastern Star and The Bellflower Womens Club. She worked in the Aerospace industry at Rockwell, NASA and Boeing for 35 years.

Gemini, Space Shuttle and B1B were some of her projects. Velma retired and began her career as her husband’s Office Manager. She was his number one supporter in all his endeavors such as City Council, Elks, Masons, Kiwanis to Vector.

He always said he could not have had a better wife or mother for his children. They agree, Rest in Peace Mom. There will be a celebration of Life for Velma on Saturday, January 19th, 2019 at her home.
