Obituary of Vergie Moore Vergie Jean Moore was born in Wayne County, North Carolina on January 4, 1949 to William S. Moore and the late Naomi Moore. She was called from labor to reward on August 29, 2018. Vergie attended the Philadelphia Public School Systems where she graduated from John Bartram High School on June 19, 1967.

In 1975, Vergie began working as a dry cleaner at Emerald Cleaners, where she stayed until 1987. She then became employed at Guest Quarters Hotel as a Housekeeping Supervisor until her health began to fail. Vergie was a very hard worker, even when she was sick in her body, she still got up to punch that clock.

Her motto was “there is no rest for the weary”. Vergie enjoyed being around her family, going to flea markets, taking long rides, shopping, shopping and more shopping. She was known as the “Color Queen” to all of her friends at the Dialysis Center as everything she wore matched from her hats down to her shoes.

Her favorite pastime was to sit on the porch and listen to her spirituals. Her favorite song was “Reach Out and Touch the Lord”. During her illness, her children and grandchildren would often sing that song to her to boost her spirits and it would bring out the biggest smile ever.

Vergie had strong spiritual values and was the church mother of New Covenant Life COGIC under the leadership of Pastor Norman Pinkney. She took great joy talking about her pastor, 1st lady and church members. She was compassionate towards others and even during her illness, she was radiant and encouraging, smiling and lifting up the name of Jesus.

Vergie was always able to bring joy to any situation with her infectious smile that was usually accompanied by the phrase “As soon as my slow boat from China comes in, we going to be alright! ” Left to cherish, honor and preserve her memory: Her father, Deacon William S. Moore; her loving daughters, Stacy and LaTesha Moore; her affectionate grandchildren, Shaina (Aramis) Stinson, Kristen and Zendaya Moore; her fond great grandchildren; Symirah Moore, Aiden Stinson, Nikaya and Knoel English; One brother, Michael Moore; One sister-in-law, Jeryl Moore.
