Verna’s Obituary Verna Bachmeier, 92 passed away April 30, 2019, at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck, ND. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, May 7, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 806 East Broadway Ave, Bismarck, with Father Christy Pathiala officiating. Burial will be held at 12:00 Noon Tuesday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm Monday, May 6, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a rosary/celebration of life service will begin at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Verna was born on April 12, 1927 to Nick and Margaret (Wingenbach) Fergel and raised on a farm near Shields, ND.

She married Leo Bachmeier on June 10, 1947 at St. Gertrude’s Parish in Raleigh, ND. They made their home near Brisbane, ND, for 45 years where they raised their five children on their farm and ranch. Verna eventually moved to Bismarck where she has lived independently since Leo’s passing in 1992.

Verna, a devout Catholic, is remembered for her love of family and her always available helping hand. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and will be remembered for her exceptional baking. Many people would request her different varieties of kuchen.

Verna enjoyed decorating her flower gardens with petrified rock. Later in life, Verna enjoyed traveling and socializing at casinos with family and friends. Verna is survived by her five children; Janice (Joe) Fleck, AZ; Doris (Paul) Hartman, ND; Leo (Shirley) Bachmeier, ND; Gerald (Willette), ND; Kevin (Theresa), MN; 10 grandchildren 16 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Isabell James, Theresa Fergel and Dorothy Fergel; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Verna was preceded in death by husband, Leo; her parents; grandson, Jason Hartman; sisters, Liz Loeb and Emma Dirk; and brothers John, Gregory, Adolph and Tony Fergel. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial be given to, North Dakota Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and St. Mary’s Grade School, Bismarck, ND.
