Vernon Brendel, of Cleveland, unexpectedly went home to his Lord on Monday, January 7, 2019. He was 74 years old. Vernon was born April 8, 1944 in Sheboygan to Harold and Bernetta (nee Illig) Brendel.

He attended local schools, graduating from Sheboygan South High School in 1962. In 1961, he enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve. Throughout his younger years, he worked various jobs.

He will be remembered by his family and community as “the bike man”. Vernon is survived by his wife of 43 years Linda and their children: Jeff Brendel of Sheboygan Falls, Scott (Jenny) Brendel and Annette Brendel, both of Cleveland. He is further survived by 11 grandchildren: Justin Brendel (Tayler Schroeder), Michael Brendel, Alyssa Brendel (Kody Woodward), Brenden, Joseph, Alissa, Orya, Brayden, Kianna, Ally and Alexia, brother Charles (Pat) Brendel of Sheboygan, brothers-in-law Harold Hintz of Cleveland and Kenneth (Judy) Hintz of FL, sisters-in-law Carol (David) Wood of Sheboygan and Corrine Hintz of Chilton, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Harold and Bernetta Brendel and his brother Jerome. A Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 PM on Friday, January 11 at St. John St Peter Ev. Lutheran Church, 1251 W. Washington Ave.

in Cleveland with Pastor Steven Wall officiating. The family will receive visitors at the church on Friday from 4:00 – 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in Vernon’s name.

The family would like to thank Cleveland police and first responders for their compassion, support and efforts. Zimmer Westview Funeral and Cremation Care Center is assisting the family with arrangements.
