Verona’s Obituary Verona M. Simmonds Regardless of what you called her – Vee, Aunt Vee, Sis. Simmonds, Verona – if you knew Verona you were blessed to have known a woman who loved God, cherished and treasured her family and friends. Verona Marguerita Simmonds was born on September 22, 1946 to Clifford Simmonds and Isolyn (Wilson) Simmonds in Kingston, Jamaica, W.I and entered heaven’s gate on February 20, 2019.

She was the youngest of 12 children (four of whom died in infancy) and six. daughters born to her parents. She attended the Jones Town Primary School and then Kingsway SDA High School.

In addition to her regular high school curriculum she enrolled in evening classes for shorthand and typing. Her career path was varied. She worked as a Teacher’s Assistant, distributor of healthy herbal products, and as a certified Home Health Aide.

She migrated to the United States in 1995. Verona was a stay at home aunt who took care of not only her parents, as best she could until her mother died, but also some of her siblings’ children. Verona had an unwavering faith in God and remained spiritual and true to her Christian believes over the years.

She started as a member at the Meadowvale Seventh Day Adventist Church in Jamaica, W.I. and continued her worship at First Seventh Day Adventist Church, Greenburgh, NY where she was a faithful member for many years. Verona worked diligently in God’s vineyard. She was a dedicated, committed, neat, loveable, caring, understanding sister in Christ.

During her membership at First Seventh Day Adventist she was involved in different ministries: Deaconess, Choir, Seniors Ministry, Prayer Ministry, assisted the Pastor in many ways (visiting sick, praying with and for individuals). and was also a soloist. She was very faithful to her many ministries in the Church Verona was pre-deceased by five of her siblings: Gloria, Oswald, Gwendolyn, Lloyd and Theresa.

She has left to cherish fond memories: her sisters Roeata Latty and Cynthia Williamson (Albert), adult nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. I am sure she would say, as Mahalia Jackson did: “If I can help somebody as I pass along then my living shall not be in vain”. We know many were blessed by her, the loving, caring, understanding, peaceful, giving woman she was.
