Veronica A. Mandy passed away unexpectedly at home on October 27, 2018, at age 96. She was born in Lawrence, MA, but spent most of her life in North Andover, MA, on the family farm that she quite literally helped build from the ground up with her other family members. Veronica graduated from the North Andover Johnson High School, ’42, and the Macintosh Business School.

Her working career included Prudential Insurance, the Perini Corp (where she was proud to be part of the workforce that built what is now Osgood Landing), and Beckwith Container. After the birth of her son, she became a homemaker and a caregiver for her mother, brothers, sister, and anyone ailing in the family. Veronica enjoyed gardening, cake decorating, and hosting many cookouts and holiday events at the family farm.

She especially enjoyed hosting the European-style, night-before-Christmas parties, where as many as 30 people would attend – families, friends and neighbors. Veronica was a superb cook who loved to shower her family with her delicious and bountiful meals. Her apple and blueberry pies where phenomenal and her cakes were a real treat.

No one left the house hungry! Veronica was known for her giving heart, as well as her generous spirit. As the family matriarch, she believed in creating lasting memories and was an inspirational mentor to all in her reach.

In 1996, she suffered a hemorrhagic stroke that left her paralyzed on her left side. Despite the stroke and doctors’ prognoses that she would live only a few years, she carried on with vigor for another 22 years with the help of her son, daughter-in-law, various family members, caring doctors, and numerous aides. Her son used to joke that she had nine lives and was going through them one by one when she bounced back from a health issue.

Through her many hardships and challenges, she didn’t complain, but instead faced each challenge with a gentle smile and never-ending love and peace. Her kindness, compassion, and generosity touched many and lives on through family members with these qualities instilled in them. With heartfelt appreciation, the family wishes to express utmost gratitude to Dr. Tzvetan Tzvetanov for his compassion, availability, and consistent care for Veronica.

A special thank you is also due to Lucy and Benita, two aides who helped care for Veronica at home for many years. Veronica lived a caring and loving life full of adventure that influenced numerous lives over many decades. She spent a majority of her life helping others.

Her unique life truly has impacted many and she will be missed. Veronica is survived by her son James Mandry, daughter-in-law Geraldine (Zemis), and her grandchildren, Edward and Kimberly, with whom Veronica lived at the family farm. Veronica also has numerous nieces and nephews, including Pauline Mandry, Raymond Mandry Jr., Claire (Shola) Dye, and Joseph Shola.

Veronica was the daughter of Mary (Zieba) Mandry and Joseph Mandry. She was the sister of and predeceased by Stanley, Louis, Peter, Raymond, Balbina (Shola), and Edward. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at the Dewhirst & Boles Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, October 31 at St. Michael’s Church in North Andover, MA. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence. For directions or to leave an online condolence, please visit www.
