OBITUARY Vicki Mae Marsh February 3, 1938 – September 23, 2018 Vicki Mae Marsh was born on February 3, 1938 to Douglas and Muriel Robertson in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She moved with her parents to Medford, Oregon during her junior high school years and graduated in 1956 from Medford High School. In 1960, Vicki graduated from Southern Oregon College with a degree in elementary education.

She accepted a position as a second-grade teacher at Redwood Elementary School in Grants Pass where she taught until 1970. In May of 1960, Vicki married Richard Graves, who preceded her in death, and they had two daughters together. In 1970, the family moved to Thailand, where Vicki and the girls lived in Bangkok for two years.

During this time Vicki taught English to Thai adults. After returning to Grants Pass, she accepted a position at South Middle School as a Title 1 teacher. In 1981 Vicki married Millard Marsh, a fellow teacher at South Middle School.

They were married for 37 years and lovingly blended their two families together. Vicki retired from teaching in 1996 and began to add to her volunteer service in the community. She was the treasurer for the FISH Food Bank for more than 40 years and was a board member for Coalition for Kids, serving as secretary, vice-president, and president.

Vicki was active at Newman United Methodist Church in the choir, bell choir, and as a member of United Methodist Women. She was a dedicated member of both PEO and AAUW, serving on many committees and projects. Vicki was a voracious reader and especially enjoyed the AAUW book clubs.

Travel was a big part of her life and the twice-yearly camping trips with a group from Newman United Methodist Church were a highlight for Vicki and Millard over the course of their married life. They also combined travel with learning, traveling to 18 Elderhostels in various places around the United States, as well as international travel to Europe and the Holy Land. Vicki’s other passions included gardening, golfing, and playing board games with friends and family.

Vicki is survived by her husband, Millard; daughters Barbara (Philip) Busch and Kathy Hayes, and step-children, Samuel (Shelly) Marsh, Tony (Yanique) Marsh, and Maria (Darren) Rentas. She is also survived by grandchildren Caitlin, Emily, Adrienne, Adam, Isaac, Jane, Jackson, Louisa, Freeman, Roman, Darian, and Colby; and great-grandchildren Douglas, Charlie, and Una. Vicki was preceded in death by her parents, sister Lee Ann Ellison, brother James Robertson, and infant great-grandson Ian.

Vicki’s life embodied serving and nurturing others and she truly lived her Christian faith. She was a mentor to many and passionate about the importance of education. Vicki was a life-long learner who continued to read, take classes, and research things that interested her until the end of her life.

The family would like to sincerely thank the friends who provided meals and other support during Vicki’s last year. The Service of Resurrection for Vicki is scheduled for 12:00 pm on October 7, 2018 at Newman United Methodist Church with a reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall.
