Victor C. Desens, 98, of Appleton, passed away peacefully at Brewster Village January 1, 2019 with his family by his side. He was born to James and Louise (Witt) Desens in the Town of Larabee, Waupaca County on February 16, 1920. Victor graduated at age 16, the valedictorian of his class.

He spent his early years on the farm, and then attended Oshkosh Business School where he graduated in accounting. He married Harriet Hurley in 1942, spending 65 years together until her passing in 2007. They lived on the family farm until 1952, before moving to Clintonville where he was employed by Four Wheel Drive.

An accounting opportunity at Thilmany Pulp & Paper moved the family to Appleton, where they remained. Accounting was his career; he possessed a strong work ethic, which he passed on to his children. He and Harriet founded DD Associates tax preparation, and then partnered with daughter Vicki, who continues the business today.

He was a gifted carpenter, worked in his amazing rose garden, and spent time at the family cottage. He was an incredible help in the Rosewood kitchen and loved to bake and share with others. Victor is survived by his children: Marian (Gary) Nielson, Florida; James (Marie) Desens, Grand Chute; Katie (Robert) Hoersch, Grand Chute; Vicki (Rich) Scharschmidt, Green Lake and Jean (Mark) Heling, Grand Chute; 17 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, June Hurley, SD.

He is further survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his late wife Harriet, 3 brothers and 1 sister. Memorial service for Victor will be 11:00 AM on Friday January 4, 2019 at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, 2211 N Richmond St, Appleton, with Deacon Gary Vanness officiating.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home Friday morning beginning at 9:30 until the 11:00 AM service. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to: Feeding America of Eastern WI, 2911 E Evergreen Drive. Appleton, WI 54913.

The family wishes to thank the Rosewood staff at Brewster Village for Dad’s wonderful care…they treated him and us like family. Dad, you taught us dedication to work life and home life is related. Honesty and pride will keep you on the straight and narrow!
