Ms. Viola Alston Woods, age 82 of The Laurel Chatham of Pittsboro, NC passed on Friday, May 11, 2018 at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill, NC. On Friday night, May 11, 2018, God saw fit to pick a beautiful flower, Viola Alston Woods. She was the daughter of the late Burnice Alston and the late Lula Cook Alston and the step daughter of the late Ruby Mae Leak Alston.

She was a faithful member of Glover’s Grove A.M.E. Zion Church where she sang in the choir for many years until her health declined. She moved to Jamaica, New York after graduating from Chatham County Training School. She moved back to Chatham County in the late 60s when she became sick living with several relatives.

She received training to learn how to make different useful items and how to take care of herself and her son. Ms. Woods always loved giving money to people and the church even when she didn’t have for herself. She lived on her owned for many years until her health declined more.

She became a resident of Laurels of Chatham. When you visited her at Laurels she was always trying to give you something, money for your children or food that was left on her lunch tray and snacks. She always wanted people to come visit her and she loved riding in her power chair.

She had an infectious beautiful smile and a sweet quiet voice talking like a baby. She would remember that your visit was supposed to occur on one day and if you missed that day and came early she would say you are early this week or its gonna be that long before you come back. She married the late Levern McCoy and had one child, Anthony McCoy.

In later years she married Willie Woods. Ms. Woods leaves to cherish her memories, her son, Anthony, her sisters: Irene Brewer, Catherine Green and Mary Lou Green, her nieces, her nephews, other relatives and friends.
