OBITUARY Viola Anne Kite July 3, 1925 – January 5, 2019 Viola Anne “Viann” Kite July 13, 1925 — Jan. 5, 2019 Viann Kite, 93, of Allen, Texas, passed away early Saturday afternoon at Victoria Gardens Senior Care Center in Frisco, Texas. A memorial service will be held at Stonebriar Funeral Home, 10375 Preston Rd, Frisco, TX on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 11:00 am in the Chapel.
Viola Anne White was born the youngest of six children on July 13, 1925 in West Point, Virginia, to John Joseph and Elizabeth M. (Pfontz) White. She is preceded in death by her sisters Lucille and Virginia, who died young during the diphtheria epidemic of 1921, and by her other sisters Katherine (Kitty) and Margorie (Margie), and one brother, John Jr. (Bud). After graduating from Morristown High School in Morristown, New Jersey, Viola worked briefly for The Seeing Eye, Whippany, New Jersey, before providing a variety of administrative duties for Bell Laboratories, also in Whippany.
While at Bell Labs, Viola met and married engineer Samuel Hardaway in 1944. Living briefly in Chicago, Kansas City and Houston, they eventually bought a home close to White Rock Lake in Dallas. They were divorced in 1959, and she went to work as a secretary for well-known Dallas insurance executive Ed Crissey at E.F. White & Associates.
In 1968, Viann married Robert M. Kite and relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she worked as an executive secretary for C.E. Natco and later for the Dean of the newly constructed Medical College at Oral Roberts University. While in Tulsa she enjoyed gardening at her new home, dancing at the Cain’s ballroom, and boating, skiing and fishing from her beloved yellow Thunderbird tri-hull on the beautiful nearby lakes of Keystone, Grand, Eufala and Tenkiller. She and Robert were divorced.
After her last child left home, Viann bought a home in Charlotte, North Carolina, to be near her daughter, and worked as an administrative assistant with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra. Afterward she enjoyed a new career arranging flowers in the floral department at the Harris-Teeter supermarket. Viann spent a long enjoyable retirement, living with her daughter in Jackson, Tennessee, where she enjoyed cooking and gardening.
After relocating to North Texas, she enjoyed caring for her beloved dog Coco, dancing, playing cards, and socializing with her many dear friends at the Grand Texan senior community in McKinney. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Steven Daniels now of Waterloo, Iowa; sons Michael Hardaway of McKinney, Texas; and David Hardaway of Allen, Texas; three grandchildren (Matthew Daniels, Christopher Daniels, and Zachary Hardaway), and three great-grandchildren (Ellie Daniels, Grace Daniels, and Glen Daniels). Her legacy lives on in them manifested in a killer work ethic, love and care for animals, and personal independence.
