Viola B. Emling January 07, 1920 – February 23, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Viola B. Emling, 99, of Du Quoin, passed away at 9:15 A.M., Saturday, February 23, 2019 at her residence. Viola had been a cook for seventeen and a half years at the Du Quoin Wheatley School. She was a member of the St. John’s United Church of Christ in Du Quoin.

Viola was also a member of the Perry County Senior Citizens and the Tamaroa Birthday Club. She was born January 7, 1920 at Perry County, IL, the daughter of Herman and Anna B. (Albers) Engelhardt. She married Robert Emling on December 18, 1948 at Pinckneyville, IL and he preceded her in death on March 9, 1999.

She is survived by her three children – Dorothy (Bill) Protz, Richard (Pat) Emling and Charles Emling, her niece – Peggy (John) Roberts, six grandchildren – Megan (Chris) Liwanag, Mandy (Dan) Robinson, Jessica (Andrew) Martin, Ryan Protz, Tyler (Wendy) Protz, and Brittany (Kyle) Willi, and six great grandchildren. She was Grandma to Michael (Candi) Roberts, Jeff (Rosie) Roberts and Amy Kuhlman and Great-Grandma to nine great grandchildren. Viola is also survived by other relatives and many dear friends.

She touched many during her lifetime and had a heart of gold that she shared with others. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother – Elmer Engelhardt. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Bro.

Arven Kirkpatrick officiating. Friends may call from 8 A.M. until the time of service on Wednesday a t the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin. Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.

In lieu of flowers, Viola’s wishes were that memorials be made to St. John’s United Church of Christ in Du Quoin and will be accepted at the funeral home.
