Viola T. (Macri) Hooper, 96, passed away September 24, 2018 at Wingate at Springfield. Born in Springfield on April 24, 1922, she was a lifelong Springfield resident. Known as “The Little Girl with the Big Voice”, Viola sang professionally in the 40’s and 50’s, recording 3 records.

She sang with American bandleader Sammy Kaye and continued to be passionate about singing throughout her life. She had worked as a sales associate at Two Guys retail store and also at Mass Mutual as a cafeteria worker. Viola loved to cook Italian dishes for her family, who she cherished spending time with.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Clarence T. Hooper, her brothers Dominic and Frank Macri and her sisters Mary Ricci and Rose Pontbriand. She leaves her son Thompson “Tom” Hooper and his wife Patricia of Springfield; her daughter and caregiver Debra Hooper and her partner Daniel Albano of Springfield, her daughter Barbara Discawicz and her husband James of Daytona Beach, FL; her brother Umberto Macri of Springfield; her grandchildren: Patrick Hooper and his wife Karen, Vanessa Hooper and her fiancé Justin Roy-Larouco, Mark Discawicz and his wife Judy, Michelle Discawicz, and Michael Discawicz; great grandchildren: Adrianna, Matthew, Kristen, Amber, Sevrina, TJ, Stephen, and Nicolas and one on the way; several great-great-grandchildren; her beloved cat Bella Rose, and many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. The family would like to thank the dedicated nurses and staff at Wingate at Springfield, especially her CNA Elizabeth, for their compassionate care given to Viola.

A Graveside Service will be held Friday, September 28, 2018 at 10:00 a. m. at Hillcrest Park Cemetery, 895 Parker St., Springfield.
