Obituary for Violet Ayako Isara On Saturday April 21, 2018 at 10 :27 am Violet Ayako [Uyeda] Isara passed away at Kuakini Hospital Emergency Room. She was 94-year-old and was looking forward to returning home from a two-week rehab at the Palolo Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center after a prior emergency event a few weeks before. Violet was actually born on Monday Sept.
24, 1923 at 2:00 am but on her birth certificate it is dated Tuesday Sept. 25, 1923. For some unknown reason they registered her birth date the following day.
The records indicated her father’s name is Hiroki Fujioka who was born in Japan and his occupation was a waiter. We suspect Hiroki was the son-in-law of Otoguma & Ume Fujioka (Tame’s parents) and was a “mukoyōshi”, an adopted husband and took the Fujioka’s family name when they were married in Japan. This was a common practice back then, unfortunately they eventually separated after Violet was born in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Violets mother Tamae Fujioka was born in 1876 in Japan and is an Issei (1ST generation). In 1950 Tame married Ichihei Uyeda in Honolulu, Hawaii. Ichihei was born in 1891 in Japan and immigrated to Hawaii and is also an Issei (1st generation).
The newly married Tamae [Fujioka] Uyeda was a house wife and raised the children. Ichihei was a rough and finish carpenter who built homes. Ichihei adopted Violet in Aug.
2,1938 (Adoption No. 1713) which was granted by the 1st Judicial Circuit Court in Honolulu when she was 15 years old. Violet married Bob Seikichi Isara on Saturday – April 21, 1945 in Honolulu, Hawaii at the Harris United Methodist Church on 20 S. Vineyard Boulevard.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Bob (1996) and her oldest son Gary Isara (2008). She is survived by her half-brother Robert (Lorrine) Uyeda and half-sister Mavis [Uyeda] (Joseph) Jones and Violets children Roy (Sandra) Isara, Nora (Keith) Ebata, Karen Nishimoto and Alan (Germaine) Isara. Violet has 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Violets career started as a cashier at Lani’s Market in Kalihi, a seamstress at Kramer’s Men’s and Boy’s Shop and retired as a sales associate. She graduated from Farrington High School in 1941. The family lived in Kalihi valley and she attended Kalihi Baptist Church under Pastor Henry Web and current Pastor Michael Wagnor.
Violet is a member of the Hawaii United Okinawan Association, Kochinda Chojin Kai Club. Violet received several certificates of recognition for her volunteer work. April 14, 2003 – Outstanding Senior Citizen by the City & County of Hawaii, November 23, 2009 – Retired Senior Volunteer Program Volunteer by the Dept of Human Services, In 2008 (?
) Governor Linda Lingle recognized her with a certificate as the Blood bank of Hawaii volunteer of the year and in April 20, 2010 she was recognized for her volunteer work at the Maluhea Hospital. At the Lanakila Multi-Purpose Senior Center she was a member of the Japanese and Okinawa club and looked forward to going and enjoyed the groups comradeship. Violet loved to immerse herself in Karaoke songs with her social group and family reunions.
She loved babysitting her grandchildren when they were born and playing Trumps, Chinese Mahjong and Japanese Hanafuda card games on the weekends with her immediate family. She also made various handcraft items to help fund raise or donate to various Hospitals or Senior Centers with a group of very close-knit retired volunteers. Violet was 94 yrs-6 mo.
-28 days old when she quickly and peacefully passed on to a better life. The entire family and friends will always carry her memory of times spent together and the gifts of faith, love, courage, sacrifice, patience, gratitude, forgiveness, generosity and much more that her life brought to us in our hearts. She will be missed.
