Bartholomew (nee Barson), 89, of Carlisle Township, died May 1, 2019 at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center. She was born October 8, 1929 on the family farm in Pittsfield, Ohio and was a 1947 graduate of Wellington High School. Violet attended Oberlin School of Commerce and had been employed as a reporter for the Elyria Chronicle Telegram and society editor and obituary writher for four years at The Oberlin News Tribune.

She was then employed at The Oberlin Chamber of Commerce and later in the Oberlin office of Dr. George Hoover. She had also been a poll worker and precinct chairperson for the Lorain County Board of Elections and had been active in the Lorain County Republican Party. She was a former Girl Scout leader and enjoyed sewing, quilting, and gardening.

Violet was a member of Lyndon Chapter #361 O.E.S., LaGrange. She and her husband traveled extensively in the United States and overseas and enjoyed camping with her family at destinations throughout the United States. Violet is survived by a daughter, Laurie (Harland) Holcomb of Henrietta Township; son, Roy K. Bartholomew of Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren, Christina Bartholomew and Lauren and Emily Holcomb; great-grandchildren, Michaela, Izaiah, and Audriana; and sisters-in-law, Jean Barson of Elyria and Susan Barson of Amherst.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Roy E. Bartholomew in 2017; parents, John and Anna Barson; and siblings, Rose, Charles, John, Victor, George, and Eugene. Violet’s family thanks the staff of The Abbewood, Ideal Home Health Care, and First Light Home Care for the kindness and compassion shown to Violet. Lyndon Chapter #361 O.E.S., LaGrange will conduct a service at 11:30 am Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at Dicken Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 323 Middle Ave.

, Elyria. Visitation will follow until the time of 1:00 pm service with Reverend William L. McFadden officiating. Burial will be in New Russia Township Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army of Elyria, 716 Broad Street, Elyria, Ohio or a charity of choice.
