Virginia Atwood April 05, 1921 – January 16, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Virginia Atwood, 97, of Benton, formerly of Du Quoin, passed away at 3:30 A.M., Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at the Helia Healthcare of Benton. Virginia had worked at Sangamo Electric, Mallory Manufacturing and at Marshall Browning Hospital as a ward clerk. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin.

Virginia was also a member of the Ruth Sunshine Sunday School Class and Elaine Pierce Mission Group. She was born April 5, 1921 at Corinth, IL, the daughter of Clark and Pearl (Grant) Stewart. She married Leslie Atwood on November 4, 1954 at Carterville, IL and he preceded her in death on August 31, 1993.

She is survived by a niece and nephews – Martha Stewart (Tom) Stinson of Marion, Shannon (Marilyn) Stewart of Galatia, Donald D. (Sue) Harris of Galatia, Joe (Kathy) Stewart of Marion, and Michael (Brenda) Stewart of West Frankfort, several great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces and great great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister – Wanda Harris and husband Ivan, brothers – Wallace Stewart and wife Olive and Virgil Stewart and wife Faye. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev.

Joe Wagner officiating. Friends may call from 1 P.M. until the time of service on Saturday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin. Burial will be in the Somers Cemetery at Johnston City, IL.

Friends may make memorials to the SSM Health and Home Hospice of Illinois, First Baptist Church of Du Quoin, or Somers Cemetery and will be accepted at the funeral home.
