Virginia B. “Ginny” Johnson, age 83, of Spring Valley died Saturday, April 28, 2018. Funeral Service for Virginia will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday May 3, 2018, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Spring Valley, MN with Pastor Betsy Dartt officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday May 2, 2018 from 5-7 P.M. at Hindt Funeral Home in Spring Valley.

Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Virginia was born May 24, 1934 in Lanesboro, MN to Paul and Christie (Bastian) Ahern. She attended school in Preston and Wykoff, MN.

She married Robert Johnson on January 3, 1951 at Zion Lutheran Parsonage in Stewartville, MN. Robert and Virginia first lived with her parents, and then Robert’s parents before renting a farm for several years, and then purchased a farm of their own. Whether they were working in the fields or milking cows, Robert and Virginia were always working together.

Virginia was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church for many years. She volunteered at the school working with preschool children and taught Sunday school as well. Virginia was a great cook who enjoyed good food and was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan.

Virginia baked hundreds of angel food cakes over the years. She also enjoyed canning food, tending to her large garden, having coffee with friends, and playing cards as a member of her neighborhood card club. Virginia is survived by her children: Sandy Richardson of Spring Valley, MN, Rick (Ruth) Johnson of Rochester, MN; 2 sisters: Carol Ahern of Spring Valley, MN, and Eileen (Vic) Rathbun of Spring Valley, MN; 5 grandchildren: Tammy (Mike) Kester, Bret Christopherson, Heather Christopherson, Brandon Christopherson, and Tiffany Christopherson; 8 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert in 1992, a son Terry, a sister in infancy, her brother Paul Ahern, and a granddaughter Jodi Mercer.
