Virginia’s Obituary Virginia S. Paoloni, 87, Olyphant, danced gracefully into the arms of our Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 15. She died as she lived: with dignity and grace.
Her cherished and devoted husband of 65 years, Edmund, survives. A lifetime resident of Olyphant, Virginia was born to the late Stephen and Matilda Borick. She graduated from Olyphant High School and furthered her education at Lackawanna Junior College.
It was there that she met her future husband and dancing partner. She worked at the Olyphant Bank until she stayed home to dedicate herself to raising her three beautiful daughters. She and her husband built a successful insurance business in the Mid Valley.
Virginia was a tireless volunteer to many local organizations, including Meals on Wheels, PTA, Girls Scouts, Valley Community Library, Heart Association and her favorite, the Mid Valley Hospital Auxiliary, where she promoted the annual Gardenia Ball. She belonged to many social clubs, such as Lackawanna Ladies Club, USABDA and American Legion. Virginia was devoted to her Catholic faith, attending daily Mass.
She was an involved member of Holy Cross Parish, Olyphant, attending adoration, singing in the choir and faithfully attending St. Ann’s Novena. Virginia lived her life with kindness, compassion and love, and instilled those values with her children and grandchildren. She also promoted the pursuit of higher education.
She had many wonderful friends and was a wonderful friend to many. She perfected the art of giving and visited her friends in need, whether it be in the hospital, the nursing home or simply to bring a pot of soup to their home. Virginia always had her suitcase packed, ready for any adventure.
She travelled extensively with family and friends. Her vacations sent her to many countries on four continents. Two of her favorite sojourns were Italy and Mexico, where many family vacations were enjoyed.
Virginia was a very social woman who always dressed for the occasion. Whether wearing a handmade scarf from her many exotic travels, to an elegant, sequined dress, she was a woman of fashion and beauty. What a beauty.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff at Lackawanna Heath & Rehab Center for the kind, loving and compassionate care provided to Virginia. She is also survived by her daughters, Lora Lynn and Virginia Ann Paoloni; grandchildren, Alisa Pearson (Eric); Emily Topalanchik (Dan); Michael and Thomas Lynn; great-grandchildren, Cole, James and Isabelle Pearson; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Attorney Paula Fisco, in 1999; and her 12 siblings: Michael, Mary, Annie, John, Mil, Olga, Joseph, Patrick, Lil, Stefanie, Paul and Til.
Mass will be held on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick’s Church, 200 Delaware Ave. , Olyphant, with Monsignor Michael J. Delaney, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at SS.
Cyril and Methodius Cemetery, Peckville. Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Hudak-O’Shea Funeral Home, 115 Garfield Ave. , Olyphant.
Family and friends are asked to go directly to the church on Saturday. The family requests that contributions be made in Virginia’s memory to Scranton Preparatory School, 1000 Wyoming Ave. , Scranton, PA 18509.
