OBITUARY W. Creed Haymond Jr. February 12, 1927 – August 30, 2018 Walter Creed Haymond Jr. passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 91 on August 30, 2018. He was born on February 12, 1927 to W. Creed and Elna Haymond in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was a loving husband, father, and faithful disciple of Jesus Christ.

He grew up with a zest for life which never dimmed. He was a man who was defined by his faith and his family. He graduated from East High School in 1945, then served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the French mission with the first group of missionaries to re-enter France after WWII.

He married the love of his life, Marjorie LaFawn Smith on December 20th, 1951 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple and they were blessed with seven beautiful children. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Utah and Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Northwestern University School of Dentistry in 1955. He then served as a Captain in the US Army Dental Corps, and was stationed in France with his family for the next 5 years.

In 1960 they returned home and he establish a successful dental practice in downtown Salt Lake City. He loved his profession and his patients, practicing full time until his retirement at the age of 78. During this time, he and Margee raised their family, traveled the world and served in many church callings.

He served as an Elders Quorum President, Bishop, High Councilor and with Margee as a missionary in the Salt Lake Inner City Mission. After retiring, they served a full time mission together in the South Africa, Johannesburg Mission. He had a passion for running, often competing in the Huntsman Utah Senior Games, where he medaled numerous times.

He loved skiing at Alta, hiking, fishing, camping, gardening, and BYU football. He traveled the world with Margee, his sweetheart, visiting 6 of the 7 continents, 37 countries, and 27 of the 50 United States. He had a sense of adventure and a love and appreciation for other cultures.

He had tremendous enthusiasm for the great adventure called life, an attitude which was contagious to all those around him. He was addicted to two things in life, his family and ice cream! He had a life-long bond with all flavors and forms of ice cream and shared that passion with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marjorie LaFawn Smith, his children, Robyn (David) Brower, Creed (Shelene), Kristine Tolman, Michelle (Scott) Hildebrandt, Wendy (Ari) Brandley, and Angela (Chad) Menlove, twenty seven grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother George, sister Marie, daughter Diana, and son-in-law Ted Tolman. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 8th, 2018 at the Salt Lake Olympus Stake Center, 2675 East 4430 South, Holladay, UT.

A viewing will be held Friday evening at the same location from 6-8pm and on Saturday morning from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services.
