Walter’s Obituary Mr. Walter Eddings, age 95, of Lumberton, passed away Friday, May 10, 2019, at his home, surrounded by family. Mr. Eddings was born March 24, 1924 to the late Frank and Rosie Eddings. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his loving, compassionate wife of 70 years, who was also his best friend, Loelear Eddings; a son-in-law, Larry “Toby” Carter; one grandson, Michael Carter; seven brothers: Joe, Gilbert, Fred, Randolph, Hal, Roscoe, and Lester; and two sisters: Juanita Eddings Locklear and Louise Eddings Cummings.

Mr. Eddings is survived by his 6 daughters, whom he was very proud of being their father: Evelyn C. Hunt (Larry), Mabel Eddings, and Selecia Cummings, all of Lumberton, NC, Myrtis McCluskey of Eagle Creek, OR, Carolyn Carroll of Southport, NC, and Reba Courtney of Myrtle Beach, SC; ten grandchildren: Audrey C. Strong, Darren Strickland, Angela King, Bobbie Groom, Anthony Bryant, Melinda Colson, Penny Nunnery, Adam Courtney, and Kenwin and Tristan Locklear; 14 great- grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Curtis Eddings. Mr. Eddings also leaves to cherish his memories an overwhelming number of family, friends, church members, and neighbors. He also leaves behind his dog and faithful companion “Spot”.

The family would also like to extend a special “Thank you” to Shameka and the other CNAs who cared so deeply for our father. Mr. Eddings was a lifelong member of Reedy Branch Baptist Church, where he previously served as a deacon and assistant Sunday School teacher. He loved his church and church family.

Some of his best friends are/were members of that church. Mr. Eddings served 3 years in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was known as “Kid”. Mr. Eddings was awarded the Victory World War II, Asiatic Pacific, and American Campaign Medals of Honor.

Mr. Eddings was a farmer for many years and also spent several years working at Kayser-Roth Hosiery Co. before retiring. Mr. Eddings was an inspiration to everyone who knew him. His home away from home was McDonalds on W. 5th Street in Lumberton, where he would meet and fellowship with so many people who would later grow to love him.

The family will receive friends on Monday, May 13, 2019, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc., 809 E. 5th Street in Lumberton. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at 3:00 PM at Reedy Branch Baptist Church in Fairmont, NC with Rev. Hilton Woodell and Rev.

Bruce Sweat officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
