Obituary for Mr. Walter Griffith Sr. WALTER GRIFFITH, SR. was born on May 28, 1938 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Andrew and Helen (Barrett) Griffith. Walter grew up on the Westside of Cleveland where he attended West Technical High School and graduated in 1957.
At West Tech, Walter was an outstanding athlete, setting school records in football, basketball and track. After high school, Walter enlisted in the United States Army and served honorably for three years, ranking as Specialist 4th class. He then worked for Ford Motor Company for 39 dedicated years until his retirement in 1997.
At the age of 15, Walter met the love of his life, Jolline James, and in 1958 they were united in holy matrimony and were blessed with four children and built a life full of love, happiness and cherished memories. Later their family grew and they became doting grandparents and great grandparents. As Walter matriculated through life, he found the Lord and served in various capacities within the church from Trustee Board to singing with the men’s choir and served in the men’s ministry and did whatever he could to serve the house of God.
Walter later united with and became a devout member of Rhema Fellowship Church under the leadership of Pastor Anthony T. Parker, Esq. , where he served in the Senior Citizen Ministry. Walter was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed keeping his lawn manicured and fixing and building things in and around the house.
He loved to grill and had perfected his barbeque ribs and often held large gatherings for his family and friends. He loved to run and exercise and loved to shoot pool with his friends. Walter lived his life as an example of responsibility, compassion, honesty and loyalty to his family and all whom he encountered.
Walter and his loving wife, Jolline, would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on December 27th. Walter leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Jolline of 59 years, children; Danella (Marcus), Walter, Jr. (Camilla), Teri (Chaun, Sr.), Vicki (Timothy); grandchildren, Jonathan (Sherelle), Desireé, Chaun, Jr., Ebanie, Terence, Timia and one great granddaughter, Harli; sisters, Joyce (preceded in death), Malissa and one brother, Cornel, and a host of many other family members and friends.
