Walter J. Russell, 93, went home to be with his Lord surrounded by family on September 27, 2018. He was born in Craigsville, West Virginia on November 23, 1924. Walter was a World War II veteran serving in the Marines.

Dad loved doing things with his family. His extended family included the boys and girls he worked with for 11 years each in boy scouts and girl scouts, the many kids he coached bowling, and the many volunteer hours he put in at Barberton Hospital. Among things he liked to do was taking care of his yard and flower beds, he was a great quilter, loved to feed the birds and chipmunks in his backyard, and at one time flew small airplanes as a past-time.

He loved to hike in Ohio and West Virginia, where he had accumulated close to 700 miles. In addition to his parents, Walt was preceded in death by his wife, Betty J. Russell of 44 years; grandson, Christopher Cox; brothers, James Russell and Alfred Russell; sisters, Lavonne Husk and Jenny Mowery. He is survived by his sons, Bob (Sandy) Russell and A.E. ‘Skip’ Russell; daughter, Debbie (Dick) Cox; grandchildren, Frank (Lisa) Russell, Jim Russell (Melissa), and Jonathan Cox; great-grandchildren, Lain, Lauren, and Lindsey; numerous family members, friends, and special friends, Buddy Dunn and Tink Holman.

Our family wishes to thank Hospice for all they did for Dad. Friends may call at Bacher Funeral Home, 3326 Manchester Rd. on Sunday, September 30, 2018 from 2 to 5 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Arlington Memorial Baptist Church, 2330 E. Market St. Akron, on Monday, October 1, 2018 at 11 a.m., with Rev.
