It’s tough to distill the life of someone into just a few meaningful words…. Wanda Marie Austin passed away peacefully on May 2, 2019 at the age of 71 after a short battle with aggressive cancer. She was born July 21, 1947 in Beloit, Wisconsin to Kenneth Donald Austin (deceased) and Estella Susan (Sahy) Austin.

Born the oldest of three, she has two brothers, Rodney “Rod” Craig Austin (deceased), and Randall “Randy” Duane Austin. She is survived by her mother Estella, her brother Randy, her son Devin Nathaniel Austin, her nieces Amy Kristine Austin and Serina Jean Serrano, and her nephews Brian Duane Austin, Jerry Edwin Austin, Cody James Austin and Kaleb Chance Manning. When she was 15, (1962) the family moved to Littleton, Colorado (now called Centennial).

After graduating from Arapahoe High School in 1966 she attended the Patricia Steven’s Finishing School which had a lasting impression on her sense of composure and style. She worked various accounting/bookkeeping jobs from Montgomery Wards (department store) to Life Partners Group (insurance) to TQ3 Navigant International (business travel), but longed to be her own boss, which she dabbled in after “retirement”. She had a knack for always being able to come up with new business ideas.

Her passions in life included listening to the Colorado Rockies baseball and Denver Broncos football games on the radio, going to the movie theater, reading crime novels, crocheting, and creating artwork for the Card Project at The Gathering Place, examples of which can be seen in the photos here. The friends she worked with at The Gathering Place were very important to her and comprised the core of her social network. Even though she didn’t make a lot of money, she was sure to always provide for her family everything that was needed.

She would help a friend in need without hesitation. She donated what she could to nonprofits. Above all else she didn’t want to be a burden to others and this was reflected in the way she kept to herself most of the time.

For those lucky enough to have known her well; she touched us with her practical, yet artistic way and we will miss her tremendously. Her ashes will be scattered during a private family ceremony. Friends and family are encouraged to sign Wanda’s guest book and share memories and/or photos here on her page.
