Wayne’s Obituary Wayne Alton Whitaker, age 79, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 13, 2019 at his home. Born in Cleveland County on November 14, 1939 he was the son of the late Otis Garry and Gladys Madeline Petty Whitaker. Wayne was a lifetime active member of Sandy Plains Baptist Church.

Wayne served as a Deacon, Choir Member, Sunday School Superintendent, Chairman of House and Grounds and the Cemetery Committee. He was owner and operator of Whitaker Home Improvement. Wayne was a humble and gentle man who cared for others and was a true example of Christian love.

In addition to his parents, Wayne is preceded in death by his first wife, Ruenette Deaton Whitaker. Wayne is survived by his wife of 22 years, Mary Ruth Webb Whitaker; a daughter, Tamara McCurry and husband Gene of Earl; a step daughter, Chrissy Allen and husband Perry of Shelby; a stepson, Butch Packard and wife Jennifer of Myrtle Beach SC. ; three brothers, Luie Whitaker and wife Mary Ann, Myles Whitaker and wife Doris, and Elmer Whitaker and wife Millie all of Shelby; a sister, Martha Hamrick and husband Ron of Shelby; two grandchildren, Courtney McCurry and Cody McCurry; step grandson, Jordan Packard; and a host of nieces and nephews Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm at Sandy Plains Baptist Church on Thursday, May 16, 2019 with Rev.

Chase Robinson and Myles Whitaker officiating. Burial will follow at Sandy Plains Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 15, 2019 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory.
