Wayne’s Obituary Wayne E. Strittmater, 77 of La Crescent, MN, died peacefully at his home on February 5, 2019 after his fourth and final battle with cancer. He was born in La Crosse, WI, on May 4, 1941 to Harold and Gladys (Witt) Strittmater Sr He attended Aquinas High School before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps where he was eventually stationed in Okinawa, Japan.

He married Kathryn Henry in 1972. Wayne retired from First Supply Company after 29 years of service. Wayne enjoyed gardening, including his vast cactus collection.

He loved animals and the outdoors, watching the Packers and Brewers and travelling out west. He was very proud of his military service and spent many hours conversing with other veterans online. In addition to his wife Kathy of La Crescent, he is survived by their children; Renee (Rick) Holzer and their children Mason, Ashtin and Colton, Amy (Patrick) Harsh and their children Aidan and Brett.

He is further survived by sons Jeffrey, James and John Strittmater and daughter Pamela Welke; brothers Harry, Jerry, Larry (Patti), Glenn (Jane) and Dale (Ella) Strittmater and sisters Darlene (Larry) Nelson, Debbie (Jeff) Severson. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ken and Ron, infant sister Betty and sisters in law Diane and Marlene. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at The Church of The Crucifixion, La Crescent.

Rev. Gregory Havel will officiate. Burial will be in the Crucifixion Cemetery.

Friends may call on the family Friday evening from 4 until 7 P.M. at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services La Crescent chapel; 111 South Oak St. The family would like to thank Gundersen Health System Oncology Department and Hospice for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, the family will donate any memorials to Wayne’s favorite charities.
