William’s Obituary Funeral Services for William A. Scheinost, age 95 of O’Neill, NE formerly of Page, NE will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church in O’Neill. Burial will follow in the O’Neill Cemetery with Military Honors by the Page American Legion Post #315 and the American Legion Riders. The family has requested that those who come dress in casual attire with a husker theme.
Visitation will be on Monday from 5-8 PM at Biglin’s Mortuary in O’Neill, NE with a Time of Sharing at 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to be designated for the local flood victims and Alzheimer’s Research. Bill passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society in Atkinson, NE.
Biglin’s Mortuary of O’Neill is in charge of arrangements. William “Bill” Scheinost was born on December 22, 1923 in rural Rapid City, SD to Frank and Josephine (Zoubek) Scheinost. He grew up in the Gross, NE area and graduated from Spencer High School in Spencer, NE in 1943.
He was very proud of the fact that during all 4 years in high school his football team went undefeated. Following graduation, he left for the shipyards of California where he was a fabricator. Ultimately, Bill joined the Army Air Forces where he was a member of the 34th Bomb Group of the 8th Airforce.
He served in WWII from 1943 to 1946 as a engineer and gunner. Bill’s plane was shot down and he was a Prisoner of War for a period of time. Bill returned to Spencer, NE following the war where he met and married Mary Jo Allen on April 29, 1946 in O’Neill, NE.
The couple were married 57 wonderful years and had seven children. He was forward thinking, a man who loved his country and who worked hard to provide for his family. Bill enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing and boating, but above all he cherished the time spent with family and friends.
Bill is survived by his 6 children; Thomas Scheinost and wife Jan of Yucaipa, CA, Roberta Matschullat and husband Doug, Janet Neumiller and husband Hale, Margaret Schultz and husband Scott, all of O’Neill, NE, Laurie Carr of Bellevue, NE, and Gregory Scheinost and wife Cathy of Page, NE. 16 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary Jo, infant daughter, Jeanne Marie, 6 brothers, a sister, a grandchild and a great grandchild.
