William C. Young, 87, of Upton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 17, 2018, at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester, surrounded and comforted by loving family and friends. He was the husband of the late Eleanor (Friend) Young. Born on December 19, 1930 in Worcester, he was a son of the late Harold and Evelyn (Thompson) Young.
He was raised and educated in Westborough and was a graduate of Westborough High School. After high school, he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering at Northeastern University. Bill then proudly joined the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
Prior to retirement, Bill was employed by GTE Sylvania in Needham and Westborough as an Electrical Engineer. Mr. Young was a member of the Siloam Masonic Lodge in Westborough. He also served on many committees in Upton including the Historical Society, Upton American Legion, School Committee and the Finance Committee, and the Technology Committee.
Bill regularly attended Upton Town Meetings and was always the one to motion to adjourn the meetings. He had a deep dedication to the Town of Upton. Bill was an extremely talented man, designing and building his house in Upton with his wife by his side and with the help of his brothers with all the construction that went with it.
He enjoyed his yearly family vacations that would take them to different parts of the country every year. In recent years, Bill enjoyed activities at the Westborough & Upton Senior Centers and spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his two children, Jeffrey C. Young of Upton and Leslie S. Young of North Andover; two grandchildren, Denise and Steven Donald; a nephew, Scott Young; two nieces, Deborah Young and Cheryl Dion; two brothers, Kenneth E Young and his wife Marie, of Upton, and Donald A. Young and his wife, Jean of Sturbridge; and his close friend and caregiver Dan Amoah.
He is predeceased by a grandson, Sean Donald, and his sister, Muriel Young. His memorial service will be held at 2 P.M. on Saturday, October 27, in the Unitarian Universalist Congregation Society of Westborough, 64 West Main St. Westborough. Burial with military honors will be held privately in Maplewood Cemetery, Upton.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 P.M. on Friday, October 26, in the Pickering & Son Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main Street, Westborough. Members of Siloam Lodge will conduct a Masonic Service at 7:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Memorial Fund of the Unitarian Universalist Congregational Society of Westborough, P O Box 544, Westborough, MA, 01581, please make payable to “UUCSW” and in memo note “Memorial Fund” or the charity of their choice.
